E-bike Charger Selection Guide

How to pick an e-bike lithium battery charger by voltage (36V/48V/52V), current and connector, plus safe charging habits.

An e-bike charger refills the light-electric-vehicle battery pack — almost always a 36V, 48V or 52V lithium pack. The right charger matches pack voltage and chemistry and uses a connector that fits your bike. Most e-bikes use 36V (42V absorption, 10S Li-ion) or 48V (54.6V absorption, 13S Li-ion); performance builds use 52V (58.8V, 14S). Never substitute a higher-voltage charger — it will overcharge the pack.

Current and charge time

A 2A charger on a 10Ah pack takes ~5h; a 4A charger ~2.5h. Faster is fine if the pack and BMS allow. Match the connector — XLR, M16/GX16 and proprietary e-bike ports are common. Browse e-bike chargers or ask JUXON for a custom OEM unit.

FAQ

Can I use a 48V charger on a 36V e-bike?

No. The 54.6V absorption of a 48V charger will overcharge a 36V (42V) pack and risk damage or fire. Always match charger absorption to pack voltage.

What current is safe for e-bike?

0.2C–0.5C of pack capacity is standard. For a 10Ah pack that is 2–5A. Higher currents need pack/BMS headroom and good cooling.

My connector doesn't match — what then?

Use a charger with the correct connector, or request a custom connector during OEM/ODM. Never defeat polarity or splice unknown connectors.

Should I unplug when full?

Quality Li-ion chargers taper to a maintenance trickle and are safe left connected briefly, but unplug once full for longevity and to avoid heat buildup in enclosed spaces.
