FAQ: EBike Battery & Charger Voltage
Can I use a 48V charger (54.6V) on a 36V battery (42V max)?
NO! This will overcharge your 36V battery, causing permanent damage and fire risk. Always match charger output voltage to battery max charging voltage (±0.5V tolerance).
My eBike has a 48V battery, but my charger says "54.6V output" – is this normal?
Yes, this is normal! A "48V" eBike battery is actually a 13S Li-ion battery with a nominal voltage of 48V (3.7V × 13 = 48.1V). The fully charged voltage is 54.6V (4.2V × 13 = 54.6V). So your charger should output 54.6V.
Where can I find the voltage information for my eBike battery?
Check these locations:
- Battery label: Usually shows "36V 10.4Ah" or "48V 14Ah"
- Original charger: Label shows output voltage (e.g., "Output: 42V 2A")
- eBike manual: Specifications section
- Manufacturer website: Search your eBike model + "battery specifications"
