The 36V eBike is the most common consumer electric bike, and its charger must output 42V (10S Li-ion) at 2A–4A. This 2026 buying guide covers voltage, current, connectors and how to buy the right replacement or OEM charger.
Voltage: Always 42V for 36V
A 36V pack charges at 42V. Never use a 48V/54.6V charger on it.
Current: 2A, 3A or 4A?
2A = standard/overnight, 3A = balanced, 4A = rapid. All are safe if voltage matches. See our 2A-vs-4A guide for detail.
Connectors
Bosch (oval), XLR (3-pin), Rosenberger, Yamaha, GX16 and DC barrel are all common. Match your battery port.

Frequently Asked Questions

42V (10S Li-ion, 4.2V/cell max). Some labels show 42V, others 41.5V — both charge a 36V pack.
How do I know my connector type?
Compare the plug shape: Bosch is oval 2-pin; XLR is 3-pin round; Rosenberger is keyed flat; DC barrel is a simple barrel jack. Send a photo for a free match.
Can I charge faster than 2A?
Yes, up to 4A if your BMS allows; charge time roughly halves versus 2A.
