Connector guide — XLR, M16/GX16 and Anderson explained
A practical look at the most common battery charger connectors and when to use each.
The plug is the part users touch every day, so connector choice is a real product decision — not an afterthought.
XLR (3-pin)
The classic round audio-style connector, repurposed for chargers. Cheap, keyed, locks with a twist. Common on e-bike and light-EV chargers up to a few amps.
M16 / GX16 (aviation plug)
Metal threaded barrel, very robust against pull and vibration. Favored on industrial and outdoor units where the cable gets yanked.
Anderson SB (gray/red/blue)
High-current blade connector, color-coded by amp rating. No polarity mistakes possible if you use the keyed housing. Standard on golf cart and mobility systems.
Proprietary e-bike interfaces
Bosch, Phylion, Yamaha and friends use their own molded plugs. For those, see our connector-specific charger range built to the exact interface.
Pick by current, environment and whether the user should be able to mismatch polarity. Browse all connectors by application.
